Inaugural Splash course at MKC
Monday, August 6, 2007 to Friday, August 10, 2007
route:
length: 5 days
difficulty: novice

organizer: Madawask Kanu Camp
participants: Al Greve, Caroline Owen, Morgan Baskin, Gail Shields, Elisha, Emily, Pablo, Ingrid, Mackenzie, and two others whose names escape me at the moment

report:

I wasn't actually at this course because I was doing another course at the time. All reports had this course being fabulous.

Gail and Cline were the instructors and Al was a safety boater on Thursday to allow for more instruction and less boat chasing.

There were 9 kids on this course and apparently more were turned away. Hopefully that means the course will run in future years.Morgan coming out of a surf in her Splash

For those not in the know, the Splash is a kids solo whitewater boat made by Andy Phillips Composite Creations and designed by VV Al Greve. Al wasn't sufficiently impressed by the boat I made for Morgan a few years ago, so he had to go one better and make a real whitewater boat for kids. Specifically for his kids (like I did), but unlike me, he's offered it for sale to others.

It's a great little boat and it's been very popular with kids. It's up for lots and this course was a great opportunity for the kids to learn from someone more fun than their parents.

There was lots of paddling and lots of ice cream.

Thanks so much to Al and Andy for making the boats and to Gail and Cline for running such a great course. Hopefully, Morgan or Cline can say more since they were actually on the course)
