whitewater play intermediate paddlers 1 day
Ottawa River - McCoys and Middle channel
Sunday, August 5, 2007
route:
length: 12.0km, 1 day
difficulty: intermediate

participants: Allan Humphries, Keith Nunn,

report:

I wanted to fill 9 days with paddling and make sure I got to do the Ottawa at least once. Allan agreed to join me, even though he hadn't put a blade in the water for 6 months.

We agreed to run the Middle and after I eventually found the right put-in and shuttled, we were on the water a little after 11am. I successfully navigated McCoys for the first time, just clipping Phil and taking on a bit of water.

The queue for Baby Face was ridiculous as usual so we headed downstream.

A fairly uneventful run, playing in the usual places and walking Garvins. There was a good wave for surfing just below Upper No Name at a mid-stream rock.

Lower No name was no big deal, which meant, of course, that we each individually made errors which led to us both swimming out the bottom of the rapid. Oh well. The risk of being blasé.

A very fun day. Thanks Allan.
