This isn't remote tripping, but you'd better have good paddling skills nonetheless. This is not flatwater most of the time. Winds are a significant factor. Spray skirts would make a big difference.
It's quite exciting paddling big water like this and I'd recommend it as a good way to see the Thousand Islands.
Camping is on defined sites, but nice for the most part. Firewood is included and there is a great shelter at the dock on each island that the cruiser crowd don't bother with for the most part.
The major problem with this area is the cruisers. Apart from the obvious hazard they can pose while you're paddling, they dock at the islands and dump parties out to camp. There was no reservation system in 1998 so we were lucky to be going after Labour Day.
On the whole a very fun trip.
